YUSUFALI: Then did he turn to their gods and said, "will ye not eat (of the offerings before you)?...
PICKTHAL:Then turned he to their gods and said: Will ye not eat?
SHAKIR: Then he turned aside to their gods secretly and said: What! do you not eat?

YUSUFALI: "What is the matter with you that ye speak not (intelligently)?"
PICKTHAL:What aileth you that ye speak not?
SHAKIR: What is the matter with you that you do not speak?

YUSUFALI: Then did he turn upon them, striking (them) with the right hand.
PICKTHAL:Then he attacked them, striking with his right hand.
SHAKIR: Then he turned against them secretly, smiting them with the right hand.

YUSUFALI: Then came (the worshippers) with hurried steps, and faced (him).
PICKTHAL:And (his people) came toward him, hastening.
SHAKIR: So they (people) advanced towards him, hastening.

YUSUFALI: He said: "Worship ye that which ye have (yourselves) carved?
PICKTHAL:He said: Worship ye that which ye yourselves do carve
SHAKIR: Said he: What! do you worship what you hew out?

YUSUFALI: "But Allah has created you and your handwork!"
PICKTHAL:When Allah hath created you and what ye make?
SHAKIR: And Allah has created you and what you make.

YUSUFALI: They said, "Build him a furnace, and throw him into the blazing fire!"
PICKTHAL:They said: Build for him a building and fling him in the red-hotfire.
SHAKIR: They said: Build for him a furnace, then cast him into the burning fire.

YUSUFALI: (This failing), they then sought a stratagem against him, but We made them the ones most humiliated!
PICKTHAL:And they designed a snare for him, but We made them the undermost.
SHAKIR: And they desired a war against him, but We brought them low.

YUSUFALI: He said: "I will go to my Lord! He will surely guide me!
PICKTHAL:And he said: Lo! I am going unto my Lord Who will guide me.
SHAKIR: And he said: Surely I fly to my lord; He will guide me.

YUSUFALI: "O my Lord! Grant me a righteous (son)!"
PICKTHAL:My Lord! Vouchsafe me of the righteous.
SHAKIR: My Lord! grant me of the doers of good deeds.
