Thursday is the first day of Safar

The Juristic Office of the Institution of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), issued a statement concerning the beginning of the month of Safar, 1445H.

 Following is the text of the statement:

As noticed in the attached picture sighting is possible by the armed eye in the regions colored navy blue such as certain regions in the Americas , Thus ,Thursday 17/08/2023 is the first day of Safar in all the regions that share a part of the night with the sighting region. And Friday 18/8/ 2023 is the first of Safar in the regions that do not share a part of the night with the sighting regions, according to the jurisprudential opinion of His Eminence the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra) who deems it enough to sight the crescent, whether by the naked eye or by the aid of telescopes, in any region with which we share a part of the night.
