The Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein announced that next Thursday is the first day of the month of Muharram and the beginning of the new Hegira year….
His Eminence issued the following statement:
It has been jurisprudentially proven to us that Thursday January 10, 2008 is the first day of the month of Muharram and that Wednesday January 9, 2008 is the last day of the month of Zul Hijja. Our Fatwa is based on the birth of the crescent and the ability of seeing it.
May Allah make this new Hegira year, a year of blessing, good, victory, power, and openness of the Islamic unity among all Muslims. Hence, one of the greatest ways of reform and preserving the Muslim dignity is preventing sectarian fighting, refusing strife among Muslims, turning the occasions of Hegira and Ashoura into occasions of solidifying the unity of Muslims, confronting the international arrogance that seeks to occupy and confiscate Islam in its entirety and observing the line of the subjective and rational dialogue among Muslims and Christians, on the basis of loving one another and furthering the spiritual and moral values of all of us.
