Sayings by His Eminence, the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra), on the blessed month of Ramadan

"Reciting supplications in the month of Ramadan builds man's character before the eyes of Allah." "Fasting is absolute piety and total obedience to Allah." "As we meet with the Quran in the month of Ramadan, we meet with the light that illuminates our minds." "He who does not live piety is the one referred to in the saying of the Messenger of Allah (p.): "Many people who fast get nothing from their fast except hunger and thirst." "This month, with all its blessings, kindnesses, ambiences and deeds, renders man a [true] Muslim in his mind, heart, body and movement as a whole, and it moves Islam in the entire reality." "The month of Ramadan trains man on what Allah loves and is pleased with, and on building ourselves on the spiritual, Islamic and human levels, so as to be worthy of the kindness and mercy of Allah." "It is the season of the good, forgiveness, mercy, satisfaction, worship and justice; so let us take a seat at this holy banquet Allah has set for us, and accept His invitation, and let us prepare ourselves to be amongst those who seek obeying Him." "In its humanistic moral sense, fasting implies that man should live his humanity in accordance with the moral and spiritual values related to his life and the lives of others." "Allah wanted the act of fasting in the month of Ramadan to be a means that enables us to remember the Day of Judgment, so as not to forget our Lord, and our responsibilities and accountability as we stand before Him for judgment, when we indulge into the lusts and desires of this world." "We ought to prepare ourselves, to the fullest extent, for the blessed month of Ramadan, at the intellectual, spiritual, emotional and practical levels, so as to be worthy of the hospitality of Allah and His blessings and mercy." "We learn from the ambiences of fasting (forsaking eating, drinking… etc.) to forsake any support and backing to the oppressors and arrogant, whether in a saying, action or stand." "In this blessed month, we ought to live piety towards Allah and enjoy His hospitality and mercy, and we ought to strive to nurture our faith, morals, spirituality and commitment." "By means of the act of fasting, man ought to strive to receive the satisfaction of Allah in everything… "
