Condemning the massacres that targeted the Shiite  Mulsims while performing their prayers in one of the mosques of Quetta  , Pakistan (Jomada-I 4 1424h-July 4 2003), The Religious Authority Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fudlullah issued the following communiqué:

We condemn and deplore the brutal and barbaric massacre against the pious believers of Shiite Muslims while performing, in the mosque in Quetta, the congregational prayers that symbolizes the unity of Muslims in their belief in the oneness of Allah.

We believe that this aggression is an expression of blind fanaticism whose advocates issue judgments accusing others of being lead astray or becoming infidels, as a result of backwardness, ignorance and intellectual stagnation.

We call upon all Muslim religious scholars in the world to vehemently condemn such barbaric atrocities, by issuing Fatwas that prohibit such actions, and by stressing the need of enhancing Islamic unity on the basis of confronting the major challenges of International unbelief and arrogance, and by resorting to objective dialogue, and referring matters of contention to Allah, the most Exalted, and His Messenger(p.) .

O Muslims: The Shiites are not the Sunnis' problem and the Sunnis are not the Shiites 'problem. It is the international arrogance that tries to incite internal strife among them that is the problem to both as well as to Islam and Muslims.

Lastly: we call on our Muslim brothers in Pakistan to practice self-restraint so as not to give a chance to those who try to exploit such actions to incite internal strife. We call upon them to unify the Muslim ranks to face the challenges that the Muslims there and in every part of the world are confronted with.

We send our warmest condolences to the families of the victims, praying that Allah, the most Exalted, will have mercy on them and send them to Heaven.

We also pray that He would reward their families and help them endure their grief.
