The Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah, received Mohammad Rida Shibani, the Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon, and discussed with him the general situation in Lebanon and the region, in addition to the latest American threats and other European positions against Iran.

His Eminence appreciated the role Iran is playing to enhance reconciliation in Lebanon, stressing that it is necessary that all parties should hold their responsibilities of achieving positive results that pave the way for realistic solutions for the Lebanese current crisis, especially amidst the dangers that are encompassing the country and the continuity of crimes against it, the last of which was assassinating MP Antoine Ghanem…because that would prevent the criminals and those who wish to plunge the country into mazes.

The meeting also touched on the recent positive developments on the level of the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Egypt. His Eminence emphasized the importance of building natural and strong relations between the two countries since that has many positive effects on the Arab-Iranian relations on the one hand and on Muslim-Muslim relations on the other hand, and could find solutions for the complications that touched many issues, especially in the Islamic field. The Sayyed also indicated that the cultural dimension of Egypt and Iran, in addition to their political roles, enables the two countries to play an effective role in many regional issues and to strengthen the Islamic unity in confronting sectarianism that some parties are trying to instigate, while exploiting the state of backwardness of the Takfiri groups.

Moreover, the meeting discussed the Iranian nuclear project and the recent threats against Iran. His Eminence stressed that the threats against Iran are due to American or perhaps Israeli pressures, especially that the plan that was drawn in the past aimed at establishing an atmosphere that is suitable for submitting the Iranian issue to the Security Council and thus issuing new sanctions against Iran. But America and Israel were surprised when the International Energy Agency confirmed that the Iranian nuclear project is a peaceful one.

The Sayyed emphasized that the European subjection to the American Administration might cause many problems for the region and for the Europeans. Besides, this subjection might drive the Bush Administration to launch more aggressions that are not confined to the region only, but to the entire world as well. Such aggressions should be prevented, especially by the European Union countries in order to preserve the European interests as well the nation's interests and to protect the international peace that is witnessing continuous crises, after the White House became under the control of the neoconservatives who are seeking to spread chaos and wars in the world.
