The Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah, received Mr. Stephane De Loecker, the Belgian Ambassador in Lebanon, and discussed with him the general situation in Lebanon and the region.

During the meeting, Sayyed Fadlullah emphasized that what is happening in Lebanon is a matter of political difference that is affected by the general atmosphere in the region and not a matter of Shiite or Sunni conflict as some are trying to show. He also warned against the American interference in the crisis “because America does not want Lebanon to reach real solutions for the Lebanese issue”.

Both parties agreed that the instability of the internal political situation will not end in a civil war as what some are saying, since, everyone is committed to the level that prevents the outbreak of a war that does not serve their interests.

His Eminence also thanked the Belgian authorities for having the Lebanese and Islamic communities as their guests, indicating that the Arabs and Muslims look forward for a just European stand towards the issues of the region, especially, the Palestinian issue.
