The Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah received a
delegation of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) headed by
Abbas Zaki, its representative in Lebanon, accompanied by Sultan Abo el-Aynaein,
Fatihi el-Ardat, and Khalid Aref. The meeting touched on the general
situation in Lebanon and the region, in addition to discussing the
internal situation in Occupied Palestine and the Palestinian-Lebanese
relations, in the light of speculations that Palestinian-Lebanese clashes
are imminent.
Sayyed Fadlullah called for an improvement of Palestinian relations,
stressing that both the PLO and Fatah need to renew dialogue with Hamas.
He also called on working to overcome the recent complications that
prevailed in the relations between the Palestinian factions, especially
between "Fatah" and "Hamas", indicating that strengthening the
inter-Palestinian relations represents a strong message to all those who
try to eliminate the Palestinian cause.
The Sayyed also saw that Palestinians in Lebanon are constantly
targeted politically, pointing to the behind-the-scene debate about
expelling them to countries like Australia, Brazil and Canada, along with
the talk about permanently settling them in Lebanon. Besides, His
Eminence warned that plunging the Palestinian cause into the
complications of the Lebanese crisis would increase the Lebanese internal
crises and wrong the Palestinian cause that some international and
regional parties are working on terminating it in a bid to shelve it and
close its dossier to serve the Israeli interest.
H.E added: "The American Administration wants to play with more than
one card in order to direct chaos in Lebanon and present the Lebanese,
the Palestinian and the sectarian titles in a way that instigates
sensitivities and divisions which might cause big negative results. From
our religious position and because we are always concerned with these
titles, we will make every effort not to allow plunging the Palestinian
cause into the mazes of new camps war."
Following the meeting, Zaki said: "We have explained to His Eminence
the recent developments in Occupied Palestine, since we have agreed with
The Sayyed in the previous meeting that we are going to inform him about
all the recent development as well as discussing them with him because we
benefit from his experience, his profound belief and faith, and his love
to Palestine. We also denied recent claims about Bourj al-Barajneh camp
and speculations that clashes between the camp and its neighbors are
imminent."
Zaki added: "We also agreed on establishing new mechanisms to thwart
conflicts and internal fighting whether in Lebanon or Palestine. We are
absolutely sure that His Eminence represents the best gift to those who
want to build real Palestinian-Lebanese relationships."
