A meeting with the Personal Representative of the UN Secretary General Geir Pederson
Receiving Geir Pederson:
Fadlullah warns the UN Secretary General that the relations of the peoples of the region with the UN will be further complicated

In his visit to the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah the Personal Representative of the UN Secretary General Geir Pederson explained that the UN Secretary General statements reported by some Lebanese newspapers about a UNIFIL role in the Syrian-Lebanese borders are inaccurate and incorrect. He further explained that UN resolution 1701 is clear on that there should be no arm smuggling at the Lebanese-Syria borders. He added that the Lebanese Government could receive assistance from the UN if she asks for it. But the UNIFIL's role is restricted on land to the area south of the Litani.

Mr. Pederson said that he was worried about the situation in Lebanon and the developments that might take place in case political reconciliation is not achieved.

The Sayyed pointed out that he shares the same feelings, and added that Lebanon needs quick political solutions and better relations with Syria in order to stabilize.

His Eminence criticized the US Ambassador increased interference in the Lebanese internal affairs and asked about the interest in providing him with all the political and media facilities to act as if he holds the top position in Lebanon.

The Sayyed called on the UN to play a reconciliatory role in Lebanon and the region, and strive not to comply with the US wishes.

He also asked the UN Secretary General to strive to calm things down and not to complicate them, noting that the peoples of the region feel that the bias shown by the UN Secretary Council toward the US and Israel has created an atmosphere of resentment in the Middle East, especially that America refuses to condemn Israel's crimes, while insisting on imposing sanctions on the countries that reject US policies, especially Iran due to its peaceful nuclear project.

On the other hand, His Eminence praised the role of the UN General Assembly and its humanitarian and development agencies.
