Receiving MP Pierre Dakkash and a delegation from "YASA",
Fadlullah said: It is prohibited to issue drivers' licenses for those who do not deserve them

The Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah, emphasized that the concerned authorities in Lebanon should uphold their responsibilities in keeping the public safety by following strictly traffic laws and watching over the social and medical safety. Besides, H.E. criticized breaking traffic laws and the negligence of the concerned authorities in imposing these laws and chasing the lawbreakers, since breaching these laws inflicts many casualties in Lebanon every year.

His Eminence also pointed out to a fatwa he had issued in this respect. He said: "It is prohibited for any party, whether it was an official or a non official one, to give any kind of drivers' licenses, (cars, trucks, motorcycles and the like…) without taking into consideration the medical and legal safety elements. Hence, issuing a driver's license for a person who does not deserve it is deemed a prohibited act. It also represents a betrayal for the truth and a crime against the entire society. The one who does this act is considered responsible for the damages that may occur, such as losing lives and properties.

His Eminence addressed a delegation from the "YASA" (Youth Association for Social Awareness) that visited him with MP Pierre Dakkash, headed by Ziad Makhail Akil, who discussed with the Sayyed the issue of the driver's licenses that are being issued in a random way and through changing the realities and breaking the law.

During the meeting, the Sayyed welcomed the forming of the organizations for guiding people and that follow up some of the gaps and obstacles in the society for the purpose of reforming the current situation, especially the issue of traffic that is considered a universal issue, but it is being more evident in Lebanon more than in any other country, especially in the aftermath of the war that have indulged the country in an anarchy. Besides, some make fun when they talk about the Lebanese, saying: To be a Lebanese is to break the laws.

H.E. also saw that caring for people's issues and safety, especially the issue of traffic, represents a religious message in addition to its being a social and humanitarian one. "Religion has come to serve man and not man has to serve religion. But, those who have used the religion as an element for inflating their personality or for personal or private interests are betraying the message of religion and the message of man".

Moreover, the Sayyed confirmed that it is necessary for the Lebanese people to meet in respecting the values through which the society develops and becomes firmly established. Among those values, there is the respecting of others' safety, in addition to the issue of criticism that, if based on the scientific and objective rules, might indicate the level of the nation's awareness.
