His Eminence issued the following statement:

It has been jurisprudently proven to us, that Monday the 23^{rd of October, 2006 is the first day of Eid Al-Fitr. Our Fatwa is based on the birth of the crescent and the possibility of seeing it in any region that we share with a part of the night. Reliable academic scholars have informed us that there is a possibility of seeing the crescent in several parts of the world that we share with a part of the night, especially the coasts of South American.}

In the light of this, we have ruled that the Eid is on Monday, May Allah make it a day of blessing, good victory, freedom for the Lebanese and the entire Muslim world, on the basis of Islamic unity that lays the foundation for its salvation and for playing its leading role with the other nations.
