In a statement about the Arab Summit, Fadlullah warns:

Do not turn the coming Arab Summit into a bridge to save Israel

The Religious Authority Grand Ayatollah Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah issued a statement in which he warned from turning the coming Arab Summit into a bridge to save Israel, following its defeat in its war against the Resistance and the political instability it is currently witnessing. His Eminence called on Saudi Arabia to take an explicit stand against the American – Israeli complicity against the new Palestinian government.

He also warned that the US Administration wants to the Summit to take part in its project of sectarianizing the political issues and widening the rift between the Sunnis and the Shiites.

Sayyed Fadlullah said:

Although we welcome any Arab Summit which provides an opportunity to meet and discuss their vital issues, and try to reach a unified position to defend them, with the Palestinian issue at their head, we feel wary whenever the date of any summit becomes imminent. The Arab Summits have become summits of concessions that Israel meets with disdain, and continues to ask for further concessions.

This has been the norm since the Rabat Summit, and Israel will continue to do so until the Arabs accept all its conditions, which surpass the issues of the refugees and Jerusalem to what is a lot bigger: An Arab and Muslim announcement that there is no such thing as a Palestinian cause or a Palestinian people, and there is no need, consequently, to talk about a sovereign Palestinian state.

Israel has always had the upper hand in all negotiation rounds. It also gained precious time, which it used to weaken, dislocate and kill the Palestinians, including their children, women and old citizens. It also was proved right in its bet on the successive Arab Summits. Therefore, it is urgently needed to say "No" in the coming Arab Summit, and not to start asking Israel about it is opinion on what will be discussed the Summit or even in its final communiqué.

We are wary and anxious towards these American – Israeli moves, and even from some Arab preparations that precede the Summit, for we have noticed that there are American pressures to force the Arabs to establish a comprehensive normalization with Israeli and not on the intelligence level only as the previous meetings coordinated, since the ultimate gaol of the American Administration is to end the Palestinian cause under the pretence of solving it.

We warn against turning the Arab Summit into a bridge that saves Israel from its internal crisis as a result of its defeat by the Resistance by means of a series of concessions in which the issues of the refugees or the withdrawal to the 1967 border will be absent, by claiming that there will be special negotiations to discuss these issues, although Israel is in such a state of weakness that it cannot conduct such negotiations to force the Arab to be committed to these concessions.

We also warn that the American Administration wants the Arabs to help realize its project in the region that seeks to sectarianize the political issue and create a rift between the Sunnis and the Shiites, for this would provide a big favour to Israel and would, of course, help execute the American project of constructive chaos that enables the Arrogant powers to continue to usurp the nation's wealth.

We would like the kingdom of Saudi Arabia that sponsored the Makkah Agreement that was culminated by the Palestinian national unity government to declare its frank opinion regarding the American negative attitude towards the new government.

Any such position that condemns the Israeli – American complicity against this government will have a positive impact on the Arabs, especially in the coming summit.
