Fadlullah Suicidal Operations against civilians are
not related to Islam
The Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein
Fadlullah noticed the return of the suicidal operations in the Arab
and Muslim region. He pointed out that they represent crimes that move
from one place to another and observed that it is rather incredible
that these crimes are initiated by Fatwas that claim that these crimes
are Islamically authentic, under the banner of resisting occupation or
opposing the regimes.
These crimes, the Sayyed added, are strongly
prohibited being crimes against oneself, the other and the entire
nation.
H.E. issued a statement that detailed his position
regarding this issue, in which he said.
It is noticed that the suicidal operations have
escalated of late, because of the methodology that characterizes the
military operations of some organizations that call themselves to be
Islamic.
These operations have reached the level of
horrendous carnages that hit the mosques, the shrines and the markets,
and target the civilians, the Muslims and the peaceful people in a
direct way.
And this led to almost a catastrophe that has hit
the Islamic reality that became a victim of the foreigner’s occupation
and the crimes of some local forces.
These crimes have inflicted several countries in
the east and the west of the Arab and Muslim worlds, especially in
Algeria where they returned after, a relatively long stop, and in Iraq
in the aftermath of the American and British occupation that sponsored
the state of anarchy which facilitated the movement of the
organizations which accuse those they differ with Takfir. Those
operations also took place in Morocco, Saudi Arabia and some Western
countries including Spain and Britain.
It is "incredible" that these crimes are initiated
by Fatwas that claim that these crimes are Islamically authentic as
being a means of resisting occupation and opposing the regimes,
although we know that Islam can in no way permit such crimes.
The religious legality of martyr operations stems
from the religious legality of the struggle against the enemy, which
is governed by precise conditions, that prove that such operations
represent a necessity in the fight against the occupier and part of
the over all effort to achieve victory. They should not be arbitrary,
or seek to achieve media coverage. That is why we said that these
operations are permitted against the occupier in Lebanon and in
Palestine where the people are deprived of any other means.
But the brutal bombings that target civilians,
Muslims and the peaceful people are strongly prohibited and represent
a crime on many levels.
First; they are crimes against oneself for Allah
does not allow the person to end his life, except for a legal
justification which is governed by specific conditions and in special
cases.
It is also a crime against the other. Allah says in
His Holy Book: take not life, which Allah hath
made sacred. The Messenger says in one speech that your money,
your blood and your honor are sacred just as this day this month and
this country are sacred.
The same principle applies to non-Muslims, since
unbelief does not justify killing, but aggression is what justifies
it, because it turns it to an issue of self-defense. Allah has said :Allah
does not forbid you respecting those who have not made war against you
on account of (your) religion, and have not driven you forth from your
homes, that you show them kindness and deal with them justly; surely
Allah loves the doers of justice.
It is a crime against the nation since it deprives
it of its scientific, cultural and creative resources, as well as the
ability to resist all projects of occupation and hegemony. It is also
first and foremost a crime against Islam, distorting its image to make
it look as the religion of killing and brutality.
Lastly, as we emphasize that such barbaric crimes
are prohibited, we feel that many of these crimes have been committed
under political and social complications which the occupation forces
or the official authorities have helped to create, which makes the
responsibility fall on several parties. These parties include the
movements that claim to be Islamic, and which should review its
methods and principles that do not conform with the Holy Quran and
thee honorable Sunnah. They also include official and non official
authorities in the Arab and Muslim worlds who should adopt the line of
social and political justice and freedom. The societies in the Arab
and Muslim worlds are also responsible, for they should not, under the
pressure of sectarianism, provide a cover for such acts.
