Fadlullah : Tuesday is
the first day of Zil- Hijja , but the Hajj is valid
In response to many enquires about Eid al-Adha ,The Religious
Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah confirmed that Tuesday
11/12/2007 is the first day of the month of Zil-Hijaa. This ruling
is based on the fact that the astronomical calculations have proved
that the crescent of the month of Zil-Hijja can not be seen any
where in the world or Sunday night. Thus Monday is the last day of
the month of Zil-Qi'da.
Moreover, the astronomical calculations indicate that in many
Islamic regions the crescent will be born after the sunset and
exactly at 17:14 international meantime. This means that relying on
testimonies of seeing the crescent Sunday night is wrong, since
there is nothing to see.
As for performing the pilgrimage on the basis of considering that
Monday is the first day of Zil-Hijja, it is considered valid
although it does not confirm with reality, since this issue is
related to performing the pilgrimage only, while the other religious
issues that are based on establishing the beginning of the lunar
month like the Eid prayer, and the impermissibility of fasting on
the Eid day and other similar issues, are determined by establishing
the beginning of the month of Zil-Hijja which is on Tuesday
11/12/2007.
