The Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein
Fadlullah, affirmed that we should educate the scout on the necessity of
behaving on the basis of human values and not on the basis of one’s sect
or political party. He also indicated that we do not only need those who
express their verbal commitment to the codes of honor, we need those who
abide by these codes.
This was revealed in the speech which he delivered
when receiving in his house in Haret Hreik, on 13 April, 2006, a
delegation of the Lebanese Scout Union, headed by the leader, Moustafa
Abdelrasool. The delegation congratulated his Eminence for the joining of
the Mabarrat Scout to the Union. Abdelrasool praised the Sayyed’s wisdom,
indicating that the Lebanese are in need to listen to the words of unity
and wisdom from scholars like His Eminence.
In his speech, the Sayyed said: “I have always
emphasized the importance of the scout’s slogan “Be Ready”. This is
because man must not freeze his potentials; he should try to mobilize
them in a mental and spiritual manner in order to be ready to respond
generally to the call of his country and especially to the call of the
nation. When we study the importance of timing the prayer in Islam, we
notice that the scouting system has a similar meaning; when you wake up
in the morning, you are ready to stand before Allah (The Exalted) and
pray the Morning Prayer. Even, in the afternoon you are ready to perform
the midday prayer. The same thing happens in the rest of the prayers.
He added: “Man should be continuously ready to present
his account before Allah in order to live spiritually with Him (The
Exalted). We believe that the scout should not involve himself in the
sectarianism issue. Although, each sect in Lebanon has its own scout, we
should make the scout act according to the humanistic value of man and
not according to sect or party and the like. We have to teach our
generations how to interact with each other on the basis of our
humanistic values. Hence, the scout must consider that his potentials are
a trust of Allah, especially when confronting moral corruption. Thus,
those who consider themselves the leaders of Lebanon teach the generation
the fanatic and sectarian morals. Whereas, we are in a great need for
those who abide by the code of honor.
Therefore, I consider that the value of man lies in
his humanity because if I have the right to disagree with you, I should
admit that you also have the right to disagree with me. And when we both
disagree, we should hold a dialogue with each other because the dialogue
is not a matter of betrayal, accusing one another or contesting with each
other, but it a process of cooperation to find the truth. This is clearly
revealed in the Holy Quran: “Say: Allah. And most
surely we or you are on a right way or in manifest error” (34:24).
Therefore, the truth is lost between us, and we have
to cooperate in order to search for it. Thus, the dialogue must not aim
at asserting oneself and becoming fanatic to one’s beliefs. We must
choose the right way at the best time. So, when you come to argue with
the other, you have to use the method that changes your enemy into a
friend. However, Allah (The Exalted), in His Holly Quran called on us to
behave with each other in a friendly manner and search for the thing
which asserts our friendship relations and makes us live a cooperative
life.
