The Education on Divine Victory (Part I)
The Victory of the Islamic Resistance was able to build a new power and a new history for the nation

On the occasion of celebrating the anniversary of the victory accomplished by the Islamic Resistance over the Zionist enemy in the July war, the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah received a group of researchers from Al-Ma'arif Al-Hikamya Institute, and discussed with them the significance of this victory, from an intellectual, educational and religious point of view.

The meaning of Divine Victory:

Q: The expression "Divine Victory" that was used after the July war has led to a debate, through which some tried to defame the image of this Victory. How does Your Eminence read this victory in its perspectives?

A: Normally, every victory in any battle that Muslims engage in against their enemies whose thought does not meet with the line of belief that is open on Allah, is a humanitarian victory in the materialistic meaning. That is because the Mujahideen are the ones who engage in the battle with all its severity and changing conditions. But, the issue is that the Mukawim or the Muslim Mujahid enters the battle in an intention of performing it as a prayer through which he comes closer to Allah. That is because the deep meaning of the prayer in the inner most of the Muslim person represents the ascension of the soul of the pious person to Allah, as it was narrated in some Hadiths (traditions). Hence, when performing his Jihadi duty, the Mujahid does not live the spirit of fear and weakness which will make him fall in any dangerous situation that he might encounter, but rather he would be living the spirit of loving Allah and satisfying Him. Since, this Jihadi movement represents a kind of elevation to be closer to Allah, the Most Exalted.

Therefore, the term "Divine Victory" is derived from the nature of the spirit of the Mujahid who engages in the battles that seek to support Allah, since he believes that in this way he will be supporting the Islamic values, the goals that Allah wants the Muslim to achieve, especially the values of justice, good and freedom. Therefore, the Mujahid who enters the battle sees that Allah is with him. That is what we inspire from the Prophet's (p.) saying when he felt in the Hijra night that he is endangered: "as he said to his friend, do not fear for Allah is with us"

This is also what we inspire from His saying, while addressing the Mujahideen who were facing the enemy who were greater than them in power and number: Those unto whom men said: Lo! The people have gathered against you, therefore fear them. (The threat of danger) but increased the faith of them and they cried: Allah is Sufficient for us! Most Excellent is He in Whom we trust! (3:173)

The term "Divine Victory" is derived from the nature of the spirit of the Mujahid who engages in the battles that seek to support Allah, since he believes that in this way he will be supporting the Islamic values

The Mujahideen inspire the issue of the divine victory from Allah's saying: "O ye who believe! If ye help Allah, He will help you and will make your foothold firm" (47:7). Thus, the Mujahid gains Allah's graces and mercy that will grant him a power above his power and a movement above his movement. Therefore, we give the Jihadi battle that the Mujahid pious youth has lived, the meaning of Divine Victory, because the Mujahid moves in the battle and directs all his powers against the enemy while seeking Allah's graces and mercy. Perhaps, that is what we inspire from what Imam Ali (a.s) narrates in the battle of Badr, that from time to time, during the battle, when Ali (a.s.) came to see the Prophet, he found him prostrating and repeating the saying: "Oh Exalted, Oh Mighty." As if the Prophet is asking Allah by His Exaltedness and Mightiness to grant the Mujahideen in Badr, the highest levels of victory and steadfastness.

The Badriyoun

Q: In the same context, Your Eminence used the expression of the Badriyoun, to describe the Mujahideen during the war. Why did you use this expression?

A: When I addressed the Mujahideen as Badriyoun, it was not based on emotions, but on a balance I made between the stand of the Mujahideen of Badr with the stand of the Islamic Resistance men. Thus, when we study the battle of Badr, we find that the polytheists were in a powerful position, while Muslims were in a weak position and that "Quraish" used to win any war it enters against any of their enemies. That is also what we inspire from the stand of some Muslim Muhajireen who said to the Prophet (a.s) when he asked their opinion about whether to engage in war with Quraish or not: "Oh! Messenger of Allah. That is "Quraish" which has never been conquered, meaning that "Quraish" is going to win, so do not take a risk and do not enter a battle against it.

But, the victory of Muslims in Badr came to lay the foundation of a new balance of power and to create a kind of equity between the power of Quraish and the power of Muslims, in which the Arabs started to feel that there are two powers in the Arabian Peninsula, that is the power of Quraish and the power of Islam.

The victory of Muslims in Badr laid the foundation of a new power for Muslims as well as the victory of the Islamic Resistance laid the foundation of a new power for the entire nation.

Consequently, when we study the reality of the Islamic Resistance's Mujahideen, we find that the atmosphere that prevailed in the Arab and Islamic world concerning the Arab-Israeli struggle or the Muslim-Israeli struggle we see that there was one power which is the power of Israel completely supported by America. That is because the Arabs and perhaps the Muslims in general, used to feel that Israel will win any battle, especially if it is waged by any Arab party, considering that the Israeli army is the army that is never defeated.

In this way, the experience of the Islamic Resistance entered a new stage, after the Islamic Resistance has gained a previous victory in the year 2000, but in a gradual manner that pressurized Israel by fits and starts, and through the small battles here and there, until Israel felt that it will not be able to continue occupying South Lebanon. But, in the July war, the Resistance engaged in a battle against Israel as an army facing another army. Hence, the war that the Islamic Mujahideen has entered in the July war, was not a guerilla warfare, but it was more like a regular war in which the Mukawimoon confronted the Israelis face to face. Besides, the battle also needed a high spiritual power in addition to the materialistic power.

The Islamic Resistance is the one who has gained victory over Israel and defeated it. It has proved that its men enjoy the spirit of courage, the firmness of stand, the steadfastness of position, the technique of military movement and information regarding some of the enemy's political and military secrets. Thus, it was able to build a new power when it defeated the army that is invincible. And that made Israel admits its failure that came as a shock to the arrogant world, especially America that was waiting Israel to win over the Resistance in a few days. This was even a shock to all the traitors who work for the American arrogance. We even noticed that the Resistance's men were facing a universal war on the political level since the European and Arab countries that are submitted to America supported the Israeli aggression. We also saw how the Arab and Muslim world reacted with this positive shock that proved to all our Arab and Islamic peoples that it is not impossible to defeat Israel, and that it is possible for Muslims to gain victory in any new confrontation.

The war that the Islamic Mujahideen has entered last July was not a guerilla warfare, but it was more like a regular war in which the Mukawimoon confronted the Israelis face to face.

Thus, I put the circumstances of the battle of Badr on the same level with the circumstances of the battle of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon. And I saw that the circumstances in both cases are similar and that the saying of the Prophet (p.) in his supplication to Allah: "God this is Quraish. It has come with it all its arrogance and boastfulness, trying to discredit them tomorrow. God, if this Muslim band will perish today Thou shall not be worshipped", represents the reality of the results of the battle. And if the Israelis have gained victory over the Resistance in this battle, the Muslims would have been totally beaten lose all their power. That is because the supposed defeat would be added to the Arab and Islamic defeats in confronting Israel, proving to the Arab and Islamic world that Israel is the only power to which they should submit.
