Doing Good in Islam

Sayyed Fadlullah: We are afraid that the American Administration has begun to plan to create internal chaos in Lebanon, having felt that the Lebanese left on their own could reach reconciliation and agree on a formula of the future of their country.

We warn the Lebanese; especially those in charge, against getting involved either directly or indirectly in this plan. We also warn those who are trying to escalate the tension that this escalation will have a negative effect on the entire country, and that it will hit them before it hits the others.

Asked in his weekly seminar the following question:  Does initiatives have a role in Islamic legislation, and how does Islam view it?

The Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah, said:

Islam has urged people to do good, and wanted all Muslims and all human beings to participate in spreading the culture of social and economic solidarity. It encouraged all the initiatives that aim at serving people whether Muslims or non-Muslims, on the basis that good is a universal phenomenon, and that continuing to do it is an Islamic duty that Islam embraced and that was called for by all Heavenly messages.

That is why we emphasize that Islam encourages all initiatives of good whether in the form of charity and whether they are individual or collective projects.

Islam has considered the latter as a continuous form of charity whose initiators would be forgiven by Allah, especially when these projects are not confined to humane services, but extend also to the political and social aspects of the community.

As for the political issues that determine the destiny of the nation, Islam has emphasized the importance of initiatives of reform that aim at preserving the unity of the social entities as well as the reconciliations between states, provided that it does not undermine bigger reform projects on the level of the Islamic nation. It should rather integrate with it and play a role in promoting it.

On this basis, we have always viewed positively all political reform initiatives that tried to reconcile between various parties, so as to prevent the chaos in one place from spreading to the other places, and diffuse the conflict of civil strife that is planned to spread in the entire Arab and Islamic world where tensions are rising especially in Lebanon.

As we appreciate certain responsible initiatives that certain parties within the nation have initiated to secure the internal peace in Lebanon,  and guarantee  Lebanonís  good  relations with the Arab and Muslim environment, and as we appreciate too the Lebanese initiatives that seek reform and whose only goal is to preserve the unity of the country, its sovereignty and the future of its generations, we notice that there is a big octopus that moves quickly to undermine any initiative that does not promote its interests or that does not conform with its vision for  the future of the region or the place and role of Lebanon in its plan.

We notice an intensification of the efforts of the Western powers, and especially the Americans, to prevent the Lebanese from drawing an agenda for reconciliation, planning for their future and determining their own destiny.

Thus, the American political diplomatic efforts in Lebanon do not represent an American commitment to help the Lebanese. It is a subversive effort that aims at hindering the efforts of the Lebanese to reconcile, whether on their own, or with the help of the Arabs and Muslims.

We are afraid that the American Administration has begun to plan to create internal chaos in Lebanon, having felt that the Lebanese, left on their own, could reach reconciliation and agree on a formula of the future of their country.

We warn the Lebanese; especially those in charge, against getting involved, either directly or indirectly, in this plan. We also warn those who are trying to escalate the tension that this escalation will have a negative effect on the entire country, and that it will hit them before it hits the others.

All parties should fear Allah regarding themselves and the people before we enter in the hell fire of internal strife.

God , the most Exalted, says  : And fear tumult or oppression, which affects not in particular (only) those of you who do wrong: and know that Allah is strict in punishment
