It is narrated that Prophet Muhammad (p.) said: “Shaaban is my month, and whoever fasts one day in my month shall be granted an abode in heaven”.
General acts to be performed on the month of Shaaban:
1-Istighfar (seeking forgiveness): It is recommended to recite the following invocation seventy times every day: “Astaghfirullaha Wa Atubu Ilayhi” (I seek Allah’s forgiveness and I repent to Him). It is narrated that Istighfar brings about a great reward, as he who recites it shall be gathered together on the Judgment Day with the supporters of the Messenger of Allah (p.), and he shall be granted a privilege by Allah, and he shall be saved from Hellfire and walk smoothly on the sirat that leads to heaven, and Allah shall forgive his sins even if they were as many as the stars. It is also narrated that reciting Istighfar seventy times in this month is equal to reciting it seventy thousand times in the other months.
2-Giving out charity (Sadaqah):It is recommended to give out charity in this month even if it is as small as a half date… Actually, this was maintained in several narrations and: “Whoever gives out charity in the month of Shaaban, Almighty Allah will breed that alms in the very same way as he breeds his small camels, until this charity will be made as huge as Mount Uhud on Resurrection Day.”
3-To recite a thousand times: “La Ilaha Illa Allah, Wa La Na’budu Illa Iyyah, Mokhliseena Lahu-d-deen, Wa Law Karihal-Mushrikoon” (There is no god but Allah, and we do not worship anyone but Him, sincere to the religion, however averse may the polytheists be).
4-Performing prayers:It is narrated in Hadiths that it is recommended to perform on every Thursday of this month two Raka’s as follows:
In the first Raka’, recite Al-Fatiha once and At-Tawheed a hundred times, and in the second, recite Al-Fatiha once and At-Tawheed a hundred times. When you finish and do Tasleem, invoke Allah to send His blessings upon Muhammad and his Household Members a hundred times. By doing that, Allah would fulfill your every need related to religion and this world.
5-Fasting: It is narrated that the skies get adorned every Thursday in the month of Shaaban and the Angels chant: “O our Lord, (please) do forgive he who fasts on this day and answer his prayers”.
It is narrated in a Hadith: “Whoever fasts every Monday and Thursday of the month of Shaaban Allah will fulfill twenty needs of his needs in this world and twenty needs of his needs in the Hereafter”.
6-Invoking Allah abundantly to send His blessings upon Muhammad and his Household Members.
7-Reading the supplications narrated on the authority of Imam Zein Al-Abideen (a.s.) on every Zawal in the month of Shaaban.
8-Reading Al-Munajat Ash-Shaabaniyya (the Whispering of Shaaban) narrated on the authority of the Commander of the Faithful and the Imams of his progeny (a.s.), found in the supplication books.
