Friday March 8is the first day of Rajab

Date: 04/03/2019 A.D 27 Jamadi II1440 H

The Juristic Office of the Institution of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra), issued a statement concerning the beginning of the month of Rajab 1440 H. in which it announced  that FridayMarch 8, 2019is the first  day of the month  of Rajab.

Following is the text of the statement:

The new crescent (central conjunction) for the month of Rajab,1440 H. will be born onWednesday March 6 , 2019 at 16:04(GMT) that is, at 18:04 , Beirut time.

On the night of Wednesday, the crescentcannotbeseen, neither with the naked eye , nor by telescopes[1], in any region of the world, since the birth of the moon will  either set before sunsetor it will be born after sunset, depending on the region. Thus, Thursday is the last day of Jamadi Al-Thania andFriday March 8, 2019 is the first day of the month  of Rajab in all regions.  On Thursday  night it can be easily seen by the naked eye in South and North America and the western parts of Africa[2],  and  also in the eastern part of Africa and some parts of Asia and The Arabian Peninsula[3], provided that the weather is clear . It can also be seen with the aid of telescope in our regions and in some regions in Asia and the Far East[4].

Therefore, according to the jurisprudential opinion of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra) who deems it sufficientto be able to seethe crescent, whether by the naked eye or by the aid of telescopes,Friday, March8, 2019, is the first day of the month ofRajab, 1440in all regions, regardless if they arein the western or eastern hemisphere.

Friday is, also, the beginning of the month, for those who stipulate the actual seeing of thecrescent in the regions they share a part of the night with.

We invoke Allah, the Most Exalted, to make this month a month of worship and full obedience to Him and to grant the believers success in doing what pleases and satisfies Him. He is the Most Merciful.
