The Prophet's Migration: A Basis for a New Phase

The First Sermon

Celebrating the new Hijri year

On this day, we celebrate the 1431 anniversary of the Prophet (p.)'s migration (Hijra) from Mecca to Al-Medina, after the pressure exercised by the atheists against Muslims reached a level that neither the Prophet (p.) nor the Muslims could tolerate anymore.

Time in Islam

Dearly beloved, on the first of this Hijri year, we ought to work on the basis of filling time through our movement and progress, for time is not inherently full, but rather it is man who fills it with his actions, especially when it comes to an occasion that represents a base that Islam relied on to establish a state throughout the world, and eventually reaching us. Therefore, the beginning of the Hijri year marks a vital and unique moment that Muslims agreed on considering as the beginning of their calendar that sets the date for all their events and occasions.

The story of the Prophet's migration

After the Muslims were driven to migrate to Al-Habsha, in two groups, the atheists set a plot for assassinating the Prophet (p.), by sending ten men of different tribes to kill him in his bed, so that no one would know who exactly killed him and the Hashemites would not be able to retaliate for his blood. However, on the night of the migration, Imam Ali (a.s.) slept in place of the Prophet (p.) so as so to cover his absence, and Allah revealed the following Ayah that describes Ali (a.s.) as one: "…who sells himself to seek the pleasure of Allah; and Allah is Affectionate to the servants." (02:207).

The Messenger of Allah (p.) left his house reciting the following Ayah: "And We have made before them a barrier and a barrier behind them, then We have covered them over so that they do not see." (36:09). However, once the atheists figured out what happened, they followed his track until they reached the entrance of the cave of Thor, to which the Messenger (p.) resorted. At that moment, they differed over whether the Prophet (p.) was in there or not, for a spider had knit a web and two doves had laid eggs at the entrance, so they went back thinking that it was impossible for the Prophet (p.) to be in there. Meanwhile, the Prophet (p.) was in the cave experiencing spiritual serenity he derived from his faith in Allah, for Allah says: "When those who disbelieved expelled him, he being the second of the two, when they were both in the cave, when he said to his companion: Grieve not, surely Allah is with us. So Allah sent down His tranquility upon him and strengthened him with hosts which you did not see, and made lowest the word of those who disbelieved; and the word of Allah, that is the highest; and Allah is Mighty, Wise." (09:40).

The Prophet's migration: From weakness to strength

The Prophet (p.)'s migration represents an Islamic rule to follow whenever a certain power exerts pressure on man to abandon his religion, and consequently its creed, legislation, and movement. When Allah talked about those who were unjust to their own selves under the pretext that they were downtrodden in the earth, He said:  "Surely (as for) those whom the angels cause to die while they are unjust to their souls, they shall say: In what state were you? They shall say: We were weak in the earth. They shall say: Was not Allah's earth spacious, so that you should have migrated therein? So these it is whose abode is hell, and it is an evil resort, except the weak from among the men and the children who have not in their power the means nor can they find a way (to escape)." (04:97-98). Actually, weakness in Islam is not an excuse, for man ought to turn any weakness he suffers from into a strength he enjoys, in order to attain his freedom and work on cementing his faith and commitment to what he calls others for.

Allah also says: "And whoever flies in Allah's way, he will find in the earth many a place of refuge and abundant resources." (04:100). This confirms the fact that the issue of strength and weakness could not be limited to the geographic boundaries surrounding man and pressuring his movement, but rather man is capable of moving to other places in the world where he could find abundant resources that do not restrict his movement and opportunities he could grasp so as to subdue the tyrant forces. We are aware that Islam was spread by various means that mostly were through the migration of Muslim traders, as well as Muslim scholars who traveled all over the world preaching people on Islam and convincing them with it. Actually, Islam was not forced into many countries, but rather it was spread by means of conviction, wisdom, and the good word.

Islam seeks to convince the workers for the sake of the Call that the act of persecuting the Call at a certain place does not render their movement impossible, for there are other positions of freedom to which they can move so as to head Islam for new horizons and win for it huge battles, and perhaps return to their basic position stronger and more capable of making a change.

This is what the Messenger of Allah (p.) and his companions did. And they established, in Al-Medina, the first Islamic state that empowered Islam and asserted its dignity and faced all the internal and external challenges threatening it. At that time, the Muslims were going through one experiment after another, until eventually Allah gave them the permission to return to Mecca to conquer it peacefully without any fighting, for Allah says: "Certainly Allah had shown to His Messenger the vision with truth: you shall most certainly enter the Sacred Mosque, if Allah pleases, in security, (some) having their heads shaved and (others) having their hair cut, you shall not fear, but He knows what you do not know, so He brought about a near victory before that." (48:27).

Man's responsibility in the new year

Dear beloved, upon this new year, we ought to take the position of judgment; we ought to judge ourselves based on what we have done throughout the past year and ask ourselves what have we done in that bygone year that will never return and that Allah will hold us accountable for?

Have we carried out our obligations towards Allah? Have we worshipped Allah the way we should? Have we performed our prayers; since prayer is the pillar of religion? Have we paid the almsgiving that Allah has ordained on us?

How did we aspire for knowledge? Have we confirmed piety in our lives by supporting the positions of right and justice and not conceding or deviating away from them?

Have we enjoined good in all what elevates man's level? Have we forbidden evil? Have we refused all kinds of oppression against people, be they from our part or others'? Have we truly struggled for the sake of Allah?

How did we treat people: in a good manner or bad manner? Have we spread reconciliation or corruption amongst people? Did we confiscate the money of others with no right whatsoever? Did we support the oppressors? Did we back the corruptors? Have we humiliated our souls or dignified them as Allah has ordered?

…And so on until we count all the good and evil acts we have committed; and then, we ought to thank Allah for giving us the opportunity for doing good and ask for His forgiveness for every evil act we have committed by our own hands, for Allah says: "O you who believe! Be careful of (your duty to) Allah, and let every soul consider what it has sent on for the morrow, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah; surely Allah is Aware of what you do." (59:18).

A moral inventory  

O beloved ones, just as we make a financial inventory for every new year, we ought to go through all our actions throughout the whole year and in a stricter manner; for that is what is left for man to be judged for in the Hereafter. Allah says: "Wealth and children are an adornment of the life of this world; and the ever-abiding, the good works, are better with your Lord in reward and better in expectation." (18:46).

The Second Sermon


Palestine: The colonization expansion continues

In occupied Palestine, the enemy rushes forward imposing its agenda on the American Administration and European Union, by accelerating its colonization expansion and associating the settlement to governmental or Knesset decrees that subject the issue of colonization or withdrawal to a referendum by the Jewish occupiers, and whose results are previously known, since those who break into the Palestinian houses on a daily basis, by means of judicial or non-judicial decisions issued by the occupation forces would only vote in favor of further colonization and occupation.

Thus, the enemy embarked on demolishing two hundred new houses in occupied Jerusalem, and the Zionist government approved a plan called "national priorities map", which decrees annexing tens of "isolated" settlements to the other settlements behind the isolation wall and ensuring that their huge funding is maintained. Actually, this is more like a prelude to gradually annex the West bank, by means of the continuous colonization activities, despite the American and European scenarios that bring up, every now and then, the issues of negotiations and the Road Map.

Resistance: The only road map

We say to the Palestinians, as well as to all the Arabs and Muslims: the only road map the enemy understands is the resistance that could at least put an end to the colonization expansion, if not the occupation itself. Therefore, everyone ought to act at every level so as to destabilize the Zionist presence in Palestine, and to inflict anxiety, depression, and instability in the Zionists' souls.

Subduing Iran is a permanent demand

On another level, the American and western pressures on Iran are escalating to force it to subdue to the terms that target its sovereignty and independence through the country's peaceful nuclear dossier. Moreover, the US Secretary of State talked about the so-called "need for imposing new sanctions on Iran," under the pretext of "providing more information on its [Iran's] suspected nuclear program"… although the reports of the American intelligence two years ago stated that Iran has stopped its nuclear arms activities in 2003, and that the agency [CIA] is 100% positive that it has not renewed its nuclear armament activities. This confirms that America and the western countries aim at blackmailing Iran in order to subdue it and drive it to abandon its scientific and technological strategy that could preserve its political independence and enhance its economic and industrial self-sufficiency, especially in the energy fields.

What is next?

  We believe that this issue does not only entail the Islamic Republic of Iran, but rather all the countries of the Arab and Islamic world, for the international arrogance, with the collaboration of the Zionist entity, is exerting every effort to prevent the formation of any Arab and Islamic powers that have economically and politically independent inclinations. Therefore, all the Arab and Islamic countries ought not to respond to the calls for seizing and boycotting Iran, for if that does occur, it would have devastating repercussions on the region, rendering it more unstable and paving the way for new rounds of violence.

The concept of Arab sovereignty  

  At a time we would like all these gatherings, as well as the political and economic Arab summits, to succeed in ensuring the welfare of their people, and further safeguarding their sovereignty, just as the case of the summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, we call for a deeper understanding for the Arab sovereignty that is violated by the Zionist warplanes round the clock and that is the target of the daily Israeli aggressions in Palestine, Lebanon…etc. without hearing any voice that calls for protecting this sovereignty and defending it with all what they have got no matter how precious it was. Moreover, the Zionist officials pay visits to several Arab countries that issue political and official statements welcoming them; a thing which is against the laws of boycott issued by the Arab League and the Arab summits.

O Americans, leave the Lebanese alone!

  As for Lebanon that was burnt by the smart or other American arms and that is still paying the price of the American made cluster bombs, it had, once again, to listen to the renewed American advice which calls for preventing arms smuggling, for the Americans, no matter how different their administrations were, want Lebanon to remain bare-handed and unarmed before Israel that possesses nuclear arms, so that it would violate Lebanon's airspace and security and occupy its land anytime it feels like it.

We say to the Americans who have crossed Lebanon off the maximum priority list, into the list of bargaining and extortion: leave the Lebanese alone, and do not interfere in the affairs of this party or the other to impose on it stands and positions that violate their country's sovereignty and the new government's agenda. Once you do that, the Lebanese will be able to establish an understanding on the issue of the weapons that will only be charged with a defensive job for protecting Lebanon, and preventing the international and regional adventurers from facilitating the execution of their projects of aggression through its land, and in its sea and sky. Actually, we are looking forward for a Lebanon that represents the model of freedom, justice, sovereignty, and independence at the level of the entire region and throughout the Middle East.
