Q: To what degree is it permissible for the worshiper to deviate from the direction of the Qibla while performing the prayer?

A: With respect to the unintentional deviation, if the degree of the digression from the Qibla does not reach the right or the left side, the worshiper should not repeat, whether he is praying during the proper time or not. If he became aware of that while he is performing the prayer, he should set right his direction and continue his prayer. Besides, if the degree of the digression from the Qibla reaches the right, the left or the hind, one should not repeat if he is praying in a time rather than the proper time of the particular prayer, but, if he is praying at the proper time, he should repeat. If he became aware of that during praying, he must break his prayer and set right his direction. The intentional deviation invalidates the prayer and if the worshiper intends to deviate while praying, his prayer will be deemed batil (invalid) irrespective of how much the degree of the digression from the Qibla is.
