The First Sermon
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Saying good words
The Holy Quran provides man with the methods and
the words that man has to adopt in his relations with others.
This includes all what he says, since talking is
the means that Allah gave us to express what we think of and what we
aware about. It also expresses our views which we differ in with
others.
It is the bridge that links us with others, and the
means that enables the community to communicate and cooperate.
The Quran has given us a general guideline in this
domain when it said: "You shall speak to men
good words". The words that they benefit from and those that
draw the people closer, and make them love and befriend one another.
Inspired by this Ayah Imam Al-Baqir (a.s.) says: "Tell people the best
things you want them to say about you". Why is that? : It is because
it is natural that you want the people to say good things about you,
to respect you and to say what you benefit from. Things that assert
your dignity and freedom.
If this is what you want the people to say about
you, then you should know that they too would want you to say the same
about them.
Piety in what you say:
Imam As-Sadiq (a.s.) says to the believers: "Be
pious, and do not carry the people on you shoulders". Do not behave in
a way that worsens your relations with others and might drive them to
commit an aggression against you.
You shall speak to men good words The Imam
cites this Ayah to tell the people that they have to choose the words
that make people love them. He says to the Shiites that they have to
improve the image of Ahl-el-Beit and not to disgrace it. If people see
the ethical way you behave with others, they will say that those
people represent the sublime morals of their Imams. He added: Say to
people good words and preserve your tongues from curiosity and bad
things.
Imam Ali-Bin Al-Hussein (a.s.) says: Good words
increase the person’s wealth, and sustenance and prolong his life,
"and leads to heaven.
The Messenger said: "I swear by He in whose hands
my life lies that people have not made a charity better than good
saying. Therefore, saying good is a charity you offer to others. It is
something that Allah loves and that earns you His satisfaction. There
is a saying in Hadith that says: A good word is a form of charity.
The Right makes you inherit the Hereafter:
If man wants to talk, he has to say the right and avoid falsehood
O ye who believe! Fear Allah, and (always) say a
word directed to the Right:
and there is a big reward for this That
He may make your conduct whole and sound and forgive you your sins He
that obeys Allah and His Messenger, has already attained the highest
achievement.
Allah has also talked about vain talk which neither benefits nor
harms, or which accuses people falsely. Allah says:
And when they hear vain talk, they turn away
there from and say: To us our deeds, and to you yours;
You have to ignore he who says vain talk
peace be to you: we seek not the ignorant
The value of Good words:
Allah has emphasized the importance of good words,
since there are words that can bring you good while bad words can
create problems. We have a Lebanese proverb that says:” One word may
make others sympathize with you while another might drive them mad.”
The first kind of words will make others like you
and solve your problems whether at home, at work or in the community.
God says: says to My servant – command
them as you command them to pray or fast that
they should (only) say those things that are best: for Satan doth sow
dissensions among them: For Satan is to man an avowed enemy.
We also know that many a case a word has initiated a war, destroyed a
house and killed the one when uttered it.
Controlling your tongue:
Imam Ali has guided us as to how we should control our tongue. You
are master of what you say until you utter it. Once you deliver it,
you are its captive.
Preserve your tongue as you do your gold and money One word could
bring disgrace and the termination of bliss. Thus, you have to
preserve your tongue, so that it will not destroy you
Describing the effects of words the Messenger says:
"A man may say something which pleases Allah Almighty without him
realizing the full extent of its implication, and because of it, Allah
prescribes His pleasure for him until the Day he meets Him. And a man
may likewise say something which angers Allah without him realizing
the full extent of its implication, and because of it, Allah
prescribes His wrath for him until the Day he meets Him. .
And we know that bad words in Islam include lying
and abuse.
The Messenger says that Allah has prohibited
paradise for those who use abusive language. He also said in the
context of forbidding cursing: I was not sent as a curser, but as a
mercy. He also said: A believer should not be a curser. There is a
general condemnation of the corrupt and the tyrants, but we are
talking here about cursing whom others consider to be sacred which
could lead to strife among Muslims.
The straight path of belief:
Imam Ali says: The tongue of the believer is behind his heart and
the heart of a hypocrite is behind his tongue"
This is because the believer will think about the
word he is going to say. If it is good he will go ahead and say it,
but if it is bad he will refrain from saying it, while a hypocrite
whose heart is behind his tongue, will say anything that comes up to
his mind without knowing if it is good or bad. He also says:
The belief of a Muslim will not be on the straight
path unless his heart is on the straight path. And his heart will not
be on the straight path, unless his tongue is. Therefore if he can
meet Allah, clean of Muslims, blood and their money, and with a
tongue, that did not violate the honour of Muslims. Let him do so.
We are suffering a lot of from the anarchy in what
we say whether at home, at work or in the community and regarding our
religious political and social circumstances. This irresponsibility in
talking can lead the society to fall in conflicts and wars that would
destroy it.
Every one of us should consider his speech as a
part of his action. And that Allah will hold him responsible for every
word he said no matter how trivial it might be.
We ask Allah to guide us to what is good in our
talk and actions, so that He will be pleased with us when we meet Him.
The Second Sermon
IN the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
The American lies in Iraq:
The American occupation of Iraq has entered its
fifth year. It has already destroyed Iraq’s security, economy and
political life. But it also has sunk the Imperial arrogance in the
Iraqi quicksand, as a result of the arbitrary and aggressive way
America is running its occupation. It has started to talk about the
difficulties it is facing in this war, and asked the American people
that is fed up with the great losses and the negative outcome of the
occupation, and has started to demand the withdrawal of American
troops from Iraq, to be patient.
But the American President and his Secretary of
State are still talking about the coming victory that will lead –
according to Rice- to a better Middle East and a broader American
security. The American Administration continues to wage war on what it
calls terrorism, at a time everyone knows that such statements is
meant to sedate their American public and restore in their minds the
image of the greatest superpower that can change the world according
to its political and economic plans.
Nevertheless, such a deceit has not been
successful, since it turned many countries in the world, especially in
the Middle East, into a place of security anarchy and political
instability. It also created many fronts of challenge where the people
began to hate the American Administration as result of the great
pressures they had to endure.
A political and moral fall:
This moral and political fall of the American
Administration was recognized by a former national security adviser,
Z. Brezinski, who stated that president George Bush has weakened the
credibility of the US in the world, having sacrificed the American
moral principles under the slogan of fighting terrorism. He added: He
has undermined our credibility, our legitimacy and even the respect of
others to our authority… Therefore, despite sending additional
soldiers to Iraq has begun. The occupation has been besieged inside
Iraq by the resistance and outside by the neighbouring countries,
which represent certain challenges in one way or another.
The conferences that were held in Iraq or in the
neighbouring countries did not yield any positive results, with the US
Administration trying hopelessly to intimate and pressurize some of
the countries in the region to help it stabilize the occupation
security in Iraq.
The American victory will not be realized:
The occupation, which has entered its fifth year,
represents a barbaric aggression against the Iraqi people, killing
tens of thousands of victims. It also killed thousands of its troops
with more soldiers falling daily, which will accumulate and become a
future defeat that will not be confined to Iraq, but could spread to
the entire region that rejects the imperial plans of the American
Administration.
Iraq, as a bleeding wound with more martyrs and
victims falling everyday, has become the victim of the occupation and
the Takfiris, Its fate has become a victim of the political, racial
and sectarian mazes. Meanwhile, the American President continues to
run after a victory that will not be realized.
We appeal to all sects and races of the Iraqi
people to take a stand of pride, dignity and freedom and refuse both
all forms of occupation and the mentality of the Takfiris and the
results it produce… the Iraqi people should make all efforts to
confront the danger of sectarian strife, which will not burn Iraq
alone, but also the entire region.
Neither the Shiites nor the Sunnis will win, for
everybody will lose when the temple will fall in heads of all parties.
A shock to the Enemy:
The Palestinians national unity government was born
at last, following hard labour and tough political complications. It
relies on its diversity to prepare for a balanced future in which the
Palestinians run their affairs on the basis of cooperation and
integration to protect the country from any internal fighting as a
result of partisan negativities that imprison the people in closed
corners. In addition, the Israeli intelligence is exploiting the
Palestinian points of weakness to incite strife. That is why the
success in forming the national unity government has been a shock to
the enemy, who also exploited the Quartet Committee to impose
impossible conditions on the Palestinians, such as recognizing Israel
without asking it to recognize the rights of the Palestinian people.
It also demands cessation of all resistance to the occupation without
asking Israel to end occupation, except on its own terms that provide
for confiscating most of the Palestinian lands. Thus, Israel declared
that it does not recognize the Palestinian government and will not
deal with it and asked other states to take a similar stand. America
takes a vague stand, but it emphasizes that it will not deal with the
representatives of Hamas, although democratically elected, since
America considers this and other militant movements as terrorist
organizations, since they are struggling to free their country, which
America considers that it is the right of Israel to occupy, and
considers all Israeli barbaric aggression acts as self-defence.
The need to support
the Palestinians:
It is tragicomic that Rice commented on the
statement of the Palestinian Prime Minister about the continuation of
the resistance against occupation that she does not understand it and
seeks clarifications, for she does not believe that the Palestinians
have a right to resist occupation.
The EU has, meanwhile, taken a confusing attitude
with some countries ready to deal with the Palestinian government, and
others making reservations as a result of the American pressures.
On their part, the Arab and Muslim states should
take a responsible stand with the Palestinian people and help their
national unity government financially and politically, since this is
what gives them the credibility of being Arabs and Muslims and earns
them the respect of the world, especially that the Arabs are waiting
for the Arab summit, hoping that it will be one of freedom,
steadfastness and response to the issues of the nation. We are afraid
on the other hand, that it will be a summit of concessions to America
and Israel as the Arabs have been used to in previous stages.
There is a great challenge that has to do with the
nation’s future, and the Arabs would either rise to the levels of this
challenge or fall to the lowest level.
False accusations:
The Security Council imposed sanctions on Iran are
based on false accusations of planning to produce nuclear weapons,
although the Islamic Republic have emphasized that its project is a
peaceful one. And we do not know if the Security Council is going to
listen to the defence of the Iranian President on his country's right
to posses peaceful nuclear energy, or if it would they take a balanced
position, or does it want to deny Iran the right to obtain nuclear
energy to develop its economy, since most of its states are driven by
arrogant hatred on Islam and Muslims.
The Lebanese interests:
Lebanon is still subjected to international and
regional polarization as well as internal partisan divisions, which
veil any clear understanding of the political and economic situation.
People are being led astray by the plots of those parties who have
accepted new tutelages, and have become a part of the plots of the
international parties, of which some want to regain its old influence
while the others want to use Lebanon as a front to pressurize other
regional states. In this respect, they have even failed the dialogue
which faithful Lebanese attached big hopes on, by complicating the
solutions through their fiery statements and political analysis.
The problem with these politicians who are looking
to further their personal and partisan ambitions is that they are
playing a game of football in which the ball is the country, and the
goals scored are partisan goals and not a national ones, from which
the country, which has become a politically economic and security
orphan, gains.
