The First Sermon
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the
Merciful
Allah says in His Glorious Book: Allah only
desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O people of the House!
and to purify you a (thorough) purifying. One of those Imams is
the 10th Imam, Ali bin Muhammad Al-Hadi, whose death anniversary
was on the tenth of the Month of Rajab.
When we study any of those great Imams, we find that they used to
continue the movement of the Message, explaining to the people all its
realities, and facing the complications that some were trying to make.
They used to represent the spirituality that is planted in the
people's hearts and minds.
That is why the people used to trust them and follow them, whether
those who believed in their imamate or those who did not.
We also know that the Imams of Ahl el-Beit were persecuted by the
Abbasids, because the latter knew how much they were loved and
respected by the people.
Consequently the Abbasids, were worried about their caliphate which
could well have been overthrown and replaced by the rule of the Ahl
el-Beit as the only legitimate authority the Muslims believe in.
We read in the Imam's biography, that the Abbasid caliph, Al-Mutawakil
tried to hurt him several times. He sent some of his policemen who
entered his house from the roof, because they were afraid that he had
arms. But they found him reciting the Quran. On the other hand, Al-Mutawakil
tried to bring the Imam (a.s.) to the capital so that he could be
under his surveillance. He sent some people to bring him, which made
the Medina, including its scholars and all its people, feel very
worried because they were afraid that the Imam(a.s.) was going to be
assassinated, but the men he sent, assured them of his safety.
His attitude with the people
In our commitment to the imamate of Ahl el-Beit, being the one who
possess the real Islamic legitimacy, and the representatives of the
Messenger (p.) whom they follow his line and continue his movements,
we have to study some of the heritage the Imam(a.s.) left us, to learn
from it:
A man came to the Imam on his death bed. The Imam told him that he
is going to say something that will make him happy and said: my father
Abu Muhammad bin Ali told me that Ali bin Musa said that his father
Jaafar bin Muhammad told him that his father Abu Muhammad bin Ali told
him that his father Ali bin Al-Hussein told him that his father
Al-Hussein bin Ali told him that his father Ali bin Abi Tablib told
him that he was with the Messenger who told him write,” and I said:
write what? “And he said: Write: in the name of Allah the
Compassionate the Merciful. Faith is what settles in the heart and is
confirmed by actions while Islam is what is said by the tongue and
what makes marriage lawful.
The man was very happy with this tradition especially that it goes
back to the Messenger through a series of infallible narrators.
This tradition tells us that when Ali (a.s.) used to sit with the
Messenger(p.) , the latter used to teach him some of his knowledge,
and he used to write what he has been taught. The Imams tell us that
many of what they used to say was taken from Ali's book.
Ali (a.s.) has recorded all what we used to learn from the
Messenger(p.). We are also being told by the historians, that when the
Prophet (p.) died, Imam Ali (a.s.) stayed at home for some time to
write the interpretation of the meanings of the Glorious Quran, to
record the secrets he knew from the Messenger as well as those he was
able to deduce.
And this what he explained in his saying, when he said that to
every branch of knowledge the Messenger has taught him, one thousand
doers were opened.
Differentiating between Islam and belief
In the tradition we quoted above, the Messenger(p.) differentiates
between Islam and belief. Islam represents the formal commitment to
pronounce the two testimonies and consider yourself a member of the
Islamic community. That is why Allah said: The
desert Arabs say, "We believe." Say, "Ye have no faith; but ye (only)say,
'We have submitted our wills to Allah,' For not yet has Faith entered
your hearts (49:14). While belief is what settles in the heart
and involves every thing that man believes in whether regarding
concepts and doctrines, or the way he acts in his daily life.
It is not enough to believe in your heart and mind. You have to
confirm it through your actions.
A firm stand against exaggeration:
Exaggeration was common at the time of the Imam(a.s.) as it is
present nowadays among some of the Shiites. At that time there was
some one called Ali bin Hasaka who was trying to be close to the
Shiites, taking advantage of their love to Ahl el-Beit to tell them
that Imam Al-Hadi is Allah, and that since they know the Imam and
follow him, they no longer have to pray, fast or perform pilgrimage.
Since many people followed him, some of the Imam's companions asked
him for his opinion, the Imam said: “Ibn Hasakah tells lies. The
curse of Allah be on him! He is not one of my guardians. May Allah
curse him. By Allah, Allah did not send Muhammad and the prophets
before him except with prayer, zakat, fasting, hajj, and guardianship.
Muhammad did not call except to Allah alone with no partner. So do we,
the guardians from his progeny. We are servants of Allah not
associating with Him anything. If we obey Him, He will have mercy on
us and if we disobey Him, He will torture us. We do not have any
authority on Allah but Allah has the authority on us and on all His
creatures. I, before Allah, disavow whoever says that and I resort to
Allah from this saying. Desert them! May Allah curse them. Block them
up into narrow passages
The Imam took a decisive position against this trend that exploits
the love of Ahl el-Beit to elevate them to be almost gods, while we,
including the imams, are the servants of God who obey Him, and this is
what we say in our testimony. "I bear witness that Muhammad's His
servant and Messenger". The greatness of the Imams is that the
worshipped Allah as He should be worshipped, and obeyed him as he
should be obeyed. We have to stand against this deviation that is the
result of ignorance and backwardness.
We love Ahl El-Beit and believe in their Imamate, on the basis of
being the honoured servants of Allah who follow His commands.
Rationality
A third point the Imam (a.s.) wanted to emphasize the importance
was rationality. Asked by an Arab scholar called Ibn Sukait, why did
Allah, the most Exalted, send Musa with magic, Jesus with medicine and
Muhammad with speeches, Imam Al-Hadi said: When Allah, the most
Exalted, sent Musa, magic was dominant in that age. Then, Allah sent
Musa and gave him what the others could not do, thus proving that he
was sent by God and that this was not a worldly act. And when he sent
Jesus, there were many infectious diseases. And Allah provided him
with the medicine for there diseases. (Thus, proving that this was
sent by God since he even brought back the dead to life by God’s
will).
And when he sent Muhammad (p.), eloquence and speech were the
dominant factors. So, The Messenger (p.) brought them by God's grace
the wisdoms that acted as a proof that it was God's talk and not that
of any human.
Stunned by this logic, the Arabic scholar asked: “And what is the
dominant element today?” The Imam said: “It is the mind by which the
honest knows God and the dishonest lies on Him”.
We understand by this saying of the Imam that we have to be
rational and relay on the mind in all our affairs whether cultural,
political, economic, or military.
Correcting misconceptions
The Imam used to correct the prevailing misconceptions about Islam
within the community like believing that certain days were unlucky and
holding them responsible for the catastrophes that might happen to
them, like losing a loved one. This is an idea that Islam rejects
because the day has nothing to do with what happens in it. Days are
merely a part of the ongoing time. One of the companions of the Imam
Al-Hadi, Al-Hassan Bin Massoud tells the following story:
“One day I visited the Imam Al-Hadi, having had an accident in
which my shoulder was hurt and my clothes were torn and I said: ‘What
a bad day. My God prevent it from making more troubles for me.’ The
Imam said: ‘You are putting the blame for your faults on someone that
can make no mistakes.’ So I knew that I was wrong and I asked God to
forgive me. The Imam said: ‘What have the days to do with whether or
not you are punished for the sins you have
committed.’”
“Corruption has appeared in the land and the sea on account of what
the hands of men have wrought, that He may make them taste a part of
that which they have done, so that they may return” (30:41)
“Then, when I started to ask God for forgiveness again, the Imam
(as) said to me: ‘God will punish you for blaming the days for what
they are not responsible for. Don’t you know that God is the One Who
rewards and the One Who punishes.”
These are the lessons of Imam Al-Hadi, the lessons of our Imams,
who relate to us what the Messenger (p.) and Allah, The Most Exalted,
have said.
May Allah, bestow on us their intercession, and hold us firm in our
following to them.
Peace be on Imam Al-Hadi the day he was born, the day he died and
the day he will be brought back to life.
The Second Sermon
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
The American President, George Bush, has called for
an international conference to discuss the establishment of a "viable"
Palestinians state that would be attended by the Palestinians, the
Israelis and some neighbouring countries and headed by the American
Secretary of State.
President Bush did not miss the opportunity to call
on the Palestinians to denounce violence and terrorism against the
Israelis and warn Hamas not to exploit its control over Gaza to
confront the Emergency Government. He also called on Israel not to
expand the settlements and remove the unauthorized checkpoints.
Moreover, he asked the moderate Arab states to help in building the
Palestinian state, by making additional diplomatic and economic
efforts, and by following the example of Egypt and Jordan in
recognizing Israel.
The American Administration needs an Arab and
Islamic support for such a call, since the Palestinian cause is the
major issue in the eyes of the Arabs and Muslims who consider America
responsible for what is happening in Palestine, since it supports
Israel's occupation of the Palestinian lands, committing brutal
massacres against Palestinian civilians and destroying the
infrastructure, thus undermining the American credibility in the
region.
Although the American President has been repeating
for the last few years his call for a Palestinian state, he has
considered right from the beginning the Palestinians to be responsible
for the failure in establishing such a state, since he considers the
resistance against the occupation an act of terror. What he is really
seeking to establish is the Israeli security. To do this, he has
supported Israeli's occupation of the lands, building the settlements
and the separating wall, and making reservations on the Road Map to
empty it of any real content.
An Israeli official has declared that Israel is not
ready to negotiate over the borders, the refugees and Jerusalem, which
poses the question to those who recognize Israel about the borders of
the state they had recognized. And to those who demand to recognize
Israel the question is: What is the legal form of this recognition of
a country whose borders extend to most of the Palestinian lands?
We believe that the call of President Bush aims at
gaining political concessions, and to continue to irradiate the
Resistance.
It is a call to enable Israel to create favourable
conditions to implement its expansionist strategy and force the
Palestinians and the Arabs, through the Palestinian Authority and the
Arab regimes, to offer additional concessions, while providing some
face saving measures. Israel and the US also want to normalize
relations with the Arab states, especially those of the Gulf who
should visit Israel following the steps of the late President Sadat.
The net result of all these steps is a Palestinian state that is
unable to exist and live. Moreover, America might also be seeking to
create an Arab front against Iran, which might embarrass the official
Arab line.
Everyone knows that this president who is
controlled by Israel will not establish a Palestinian state, but he is
going to leave it to the next president, following a policy of deceit,
like several American presidents before him who were more loyal to
Israel than their own country.
The Developments on the Palestinian Front:
The meeting between the President of the
Palestinian Authority and the Enemy's Prime minister was one of
exchanging empty complements.
The Enemy's Prime Minister continued to storm
Palestinian towns and villages in the West Bank, detaining or
assassinating wanted Palestinians.
He also did not remove any of the roadblocks that
humiliate the Palestinian and complicate their lives. He also warned
Abbas that if he resumed his talks with Hamas and reinstituted the
coalition government, the political process that is currently taking
place between the Authority and Israel will collapse.
The enemy's radio said that any of the major issues
like the borders, Jerusalem and the refugees, were not discussed in
the meeting.
Thus, the meeting between the wolf and the prey
ended with no real results. This is what explains the refusal of Abass
and his followers to hold a dialogue with Hamas. The welcome the
Authority's government received by America, Israel, Europe the Arabs
was a welcome to ending any political role of Hamas and planning to
end the resistance against occupation, a case in point would be the
Aqsa Brigades announcement of ending violence against Israel.
We see in these developments, and in the American,
European and Arab positions, an imminent danger on the future of the
Palestinian cause, especially after appointing Tony Blair, the former
British Prime Minister, as a representative of the Quartet Committee.
American Extortion
The Islamic world is still under extortion from the
officials that the arrogant world, headed by America. This extortion
aims at undermining the liberation movements that seeks to free their
countries from occupation and hegemony under the pretence of fighting
terrorism, that has changed into an American international war against
all those who oppose the US arrogant policies.
This is what we notice in Pakistan whose president
has committed a horrific massacre against civilians in the "Red
Mosque" that was applauded by the American President who supports
changing the situation in the country into a state of chaos, similar
to what had happened in Afghanistan and Iraq, where the American
constructive chaos has turned into a series of brutal massacres
committed against innocent civilians.
We are following up the movement of this satanic
administration that aims at transforming the Muslim world in a war
front, a place where strife thrives and where chaos dominates. We want
the Muslim world to stand strongly against this plot, and we ask the
Organization of the Islamic Conference to call for a meeting for its
states to confront this American scheme that is destroying the Muslims
states and people alike.
In Lebanon, the returning of the participants in
the Saint Cloud meeting that suggested an atmosphere or truce, and led
to the emergence of certain naïve emotions…
They are now waiting for a new visit for a French
official whom we do not know how much ability does he have to solve
the problem, especially after the new political developments
concerning the issue of the majority of two thirds needed for the
election of the President.
We have to keep our eyes on the American position
that began to hinder the French effort, since it does not want any
Arab or western effort to step out of the lines American has drawn.
Thus, the Lebanese question will remain a hostage to the Americans who
will thwart any effort to resolve it by means of the political
ceilings they had put to the international and regional parties.
Internal and External complications:
The problem of the Lebanese crisis lies in the fact
that it is associated with the regional crisis, which means that the
international and Arab parties that seek to find a solution find
themselves having to contact several states who have certain interests
in the way things develop in Lebanon. Then there are the internal
political and security complications that stem from the concern of
those politicians and clerics in charge of the confessions in Lebanon
to hinder a solution in order to save the privileges of their
confessions whether in the civil service or that respect certain
cultural sensitivities, especially after the first anniversary of the
victory of the Resistance against the Zionist aggression, that has
written a new chapter of pride in the Arab – Israeli struggle, at a
time the Zionists are talking about a plan for a new war in the region
to regain the Zionist Army's reputation as an invincible army.
Although we do not foresee a realistic chance for
such a war, whether in Lebanon, Syria or Iran, we have to be vigilant
and cautious, and support the Resistance which possesses the courage,
the experience and the readiness to face any development in the
region.
