His Eminence, Sayyed Ali Fadlullah, delivered the two Friday prayer sermons at the Imamain Al-Hassanain Mosque, Jumada II, 21st 1437 H. – April, 1st 2016. Several prominent religious scholars, dignitaries and thousands of believers attended the Jumu’a prayer.
In the first sermon, His Eminence, Sayyed Ali Fadlullah, talked about Lady Az-Zahraa (a.s.) on her birth anniversary. He emphasized that her position as a role model says a lot about the position of women in Islam. The Sayyed went through her life and struggle to prove that women in Islam are not less than men, but equal human beings. He also called for reviewing the mainstream views regarding women in our societies, including those who cite certain Hadiths to prove their misleading point. He considered that these Hadiths are either contradictory to the Quran, and thus should be disregarded, or weak in their authenticity, or were said in certain social and political situations, so they should be understood in that context only.
The Sayyed criticized the way some people regard the woman as being inefficient and incapable even of driving a car. He maintained that Islam, which eliminated the habit of burying the female children alive, would never burry their potentials, skills and intellect when they become adults. The very fact that Fatima Az-Zahraa (a.s.) is our role model should have a lot of influence on the way we regard women, as well as their social and political roles in our societies.
