Q: How can we define a deceitful look? Is it permissible to look at women in pornographic movies or photos?

A: When studying the Quranic text related to this notion, we assume that God wishes for the feelings and emotions of a believer, whether a male or a female, to be pure, having no immoral ulterior motives which certainly cultivate the soil for future perversions. God wants us to live a state of infallibility in our minds, in other words, to exempt our thoughts from the tendency to sins, then, to become inerrant in our practical lives, because our acts emanate from our thoughts, feelings, and notions.

Drawing upon the following verse:”Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their private parts: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do,1” we infer from the phrase “… that will make for greater purity for them” that God wished for man to be pure at heart, and consequently perform virtuous deeds. In the following verses God is addressing women asking them to speak in a decent manner: “And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty 2” “be not soft in (your) speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease yearn”. A woman should not soften her voice in an attempt to beguile men because that will ultimately lead to perversion and immorality.
