The Juristic Office of the Institution of the late Religious Authority, His Eminence, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra) issued a statement in which it declared that Friday, September 2, 2016 is the first of the month of Thul-Hijja 1437 H., according to the jurisprudential opinion of the late Religious Authority, His Eminence, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra).

Following is the text of the statement:

The new crescent (central conjunction) for the month of Thul-Hijja 1436 H. is born on Thursday, September 1, 2016 A.D. at 09:03 a.m. (GMT); that is, at 12:03 a.m. Beirut time. On the evening of this day (Friday eve), it is impossible to sight the crescent in the eastern hemisphere of the globe, and there is no possibility to sight it in the rest of the regions in the world, except in the upper western coast of South America, where the sighting is possible by the aid of telescopes. Thus, Friday, September 2, 2016 is the first of the month of Thul-Hijja 1437 H. for the regions that share a part of the night with the region where the sighting is possible, and Saturday, September 3, 2016 is the first of the month of Thul-Hijja 1437 H. for the regions that do not share a part of the night with the regions where the sighting is possible, according to the jurisprudential opinion of the late Religious Authority, His Eminence, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra), considering that it is enough to establish the sighting, even if by the aid of telescopes, in any region of the world with which a part of the night is shared.

We invoke Allah to shower the pilgrims with His mercy and accept their deeds, along with every believer. May these days be days of goodness and blessings. May Allah unite the word of Muslims and defeat their enemies, He is All-Hearing and Responsive, He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.
