The Juristic Office at the Institution of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra), issued a statement in which it declared that Thursday, August 04, 2016 is the first of the month of Thul-Qi’da 1437 H. according to the jurisprudential opinion of the late Religious Authority, His Eminence, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra).
Following is the text of the statement:
The new crescent (central conjunction) for the month of Thul-Qi’da 1437 H. was born on Tuesday, August 02, 2016 A.D. at 20:45 a.m. (GMT) that is, at 23:45 p.m. Beirut time. On the evening of this day, it is impossible to sight the crescent by the naked eye in any place in the world, therefore, Wednesday marks the thirtieth of the month of Shawwal, and Thursday, August 04, 2016 will be the first of the month of Thul-Qi’da 1437 H. according to the jurisprudential opinion of the late Sayyed Fadlullah (ra), as the thirty days of the previous month will be completed. It is worth mentioning that the crescent can be sighted by the naked eye and easily in most of South America, and it might also be sighted by the naked eye in many regions of Africa and some regions of North America, not to mention that it can be sighted by the aid of telescopes in some of the regions of Africa (northern part) and other regions.
We invoke Allah to enable the Islamic nation to maintain its unity, dignity and honor and the believers to fulfill and maintain all the duties that satisfy and please Him; He is All-Hearing and Responsive.
