The Religious Authority H.E. Sayyed M. H. Fadlullah delivered the two Friday prayer sermons at the Imamain Al-Hassanain Mosque, 9th of May 2008 A.D., 4 Jamadi'I 1429 H, several prominent religious scholars, dignitaries and thousands of believers attended the Jumu’a prayer
The First Sermon
Allah says in His Glorious Book in the Mudather Surah:
Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds.
Except the Companions of the Right Hand. (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other,
And (ask) of the Sinners: "What led you into Hell Fire?"
They shall say: We were not of those who prayed;
"Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,
"Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain."
Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- As if they were affrighted asses, Fleeing from a lion! Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, (74:36-53).In these Holy Ayats, Allah, The Most Exalted, tells us about a spiritual truth of belief that has to do with the relationship between man and His God. Allah, The Most Exalted, has created man and made his destiny dependable upon his deeds. If the people aimed at serving the good, piety and obedience of Allah, they would be free before Allah and will receive His Blessing, Mercy and forgiveness. They will end up with the free people in His paradise. But if they chose to commit evil and sins and deviated from the straight path, they will also witness the result of their deeds which could lead to Allah's wrath and end in hell.
Allah says: "Every soul will be (hell) in pledge for his deeds" this means that man is identified with his deeds.
This is what the Quran emphasized in a several Ayahs. He says: "And say: work righteousness: soon will Allah observe your work and His Messenger and the Believers" (9:105) meaning that you are being watched by Allah who sees what you do, the Messenger whom your actions would be submitted to him, and the believers who observe your deeds. He also says: Man will see the result of his deeds, be they good or evil. The Divine principle that governs this law is that there is no special relationship in this respect between Allah and any of His creations. And this what Allah has told us about the Prophet (p.), although he is infallible and loved by Allah. He says to His Messenger: Say: "I would, if I disobeyed My Lord, indeed have fear of the penalty of a mighty Day". (06:15). And also: "If the Messenger were to invent any saying in our name we should certainly Seize him by his right hand, And we should certainly then out the artery of his heart(69:4-6). He also tells confirms that man's fate is directly linked to his actions. Allah conveys to us a dialogue between the people in hell who were among their relatives and friends who could ask the sinners about what led them into Hell fire and they would say we were not of those who prayed, since those who do not pray have no religion, and we were "not of those who fed the indigent". Allah has given us a lot of money but we did not spend from it on those who deserve, and "we used to side with the arrogant and the deviators and we used to deny the Day of Judgement, if we heard a sermon about the inevitability of this day and about reward and punishment we used to make fun of it. "Until there came to us (the hour) that is certain"– that is the hour of death, and at that moment no intercessions whatsoever will do any good.
Liberating one's soul
On the other hand, Allah tells us about the believers whom He let them in His heaven, since they have liberated themselves by their deeds. He says: and (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring(this means that we have to make all efforts to ensure that our offspring follow the right path) and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. (since they have liberated themselves through good deeds)
And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire.
Based on these principles we have to abide by Allah's orders, since He wants us to attain His satisfaction in all our affairs and situations whether in worshipping, dealing with others war and peace… etc.
When Allah says in Al-Umran Surah that we have to hold fast to the rope of Allah and not disperse, he is asking us to hold fast to Islam, being Allah's rope. This rope is the basis of our Islamic unity since we will be all living a Muslim brotherhood with all Muslims. In case any dispute takes place among Muslims, the Muslim community will have to reconcile them.
This is what the Messenger(p.) stressed in the farewell pilgrimage, when he said: O people just as you regard this day, this month and this city as sacred, so regard the life and property (and honour in some stories), every Muslim is a sacred trust. He goes on to consider that killing one another after the Prophet has left would mean that the Muslims went back to deviation and unbelief.
This is what Allah and His messenger wanted us to follow: to be unified and concerned about fellow Muslims and to stand firm against the unbelievers and deploy all our forces against them.
Thus, the issue of Islamic unity, even if the Muslims were to differ on a number of things, remains Allah's and His Messenger's trust among Muslims, to the extent that Imam Ali forewent his legitimate right saying: I will keep the peace as long as the affairs of Muslims were secured and the injustice has fallen on me alone. Not only did he resort to patience, but he also gave those who denied him his right all possible advice, thus, dedicating all his life to serve the Message and the protection of Islam.
And this is what we ought to dedicate our lives for, so that we would be the best nation, that enjoins good and forbids evil, a nation that upholds the right and forbid evil, and act with mercy and forgiveness among ourselves.
The Second Sermon
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Having failed in its project in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon, the American Administration of the neoconservatives has entered a new stage in its policies that concentrates of inciting strife in the Arab and Muslim worlds that moves from one place to another.
In Palestine, the Americans and Israelis are putting their stakes on an internal Palestinian strife that is coupled with the going back of the Enemy's prime minister on his promises claiming that any solution to the issues of Jerusalem or the settlements will lead to the resignation of the religious parties from the government and consequently the fall of the cabinet. Thus our causes are dependent upon the unity of the Jews in Palestine, in addition to the American promises that come with every new president only to go when he does.
In these circumstances, the American Secretary of State is coming to occupied Palestine to prepare for the visit of her President who is coming to celebrate the anniversary of the establishment of the usurping entity, that he wishes to turn into a pure Jewish state, while talking only about the checkpoints in Gaza while much more significant issues such as the separating wall and the settlements are not being put on the table of negotiations.
Nevertheless, they still talk about the Road Map and about additional solutions in the coming few months, at a time the Palestinian misery and sufferings continue whether at the checkpoints or through the massacres, or the starvation blockade, at a time the Arab gas runs directly to the Enemy's entity in an equation that nobody can explain and not even the officials of the collapsing Arab regimes.
Meanwhile, the American occupation continues its aggressions in Iraq especially against civilians in the city of As-Sadr, where they were exploiting the unfolding situation, just as they are continuing their aggression to Afghanistan and recently in Somalia. They are also targeting the popular and Islamic vanguard that opposes the US policies, all in the name of fighting terrorism.
Meanwhile, they continue to usurp the Arab and Muslim natural resources and confiscate political and security political and security positions. We, therefore, ought to confront this, based on our internal unity and deploying our sources of strength in the entire region.
The plan that it is being prepared in the name of the international community that is led by the US in the Security Council aims at declaring a war against the resistance in Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq as well as all the other Resistance movements and positions of opposition to the US Policies, since the spread of resistance will further hinder the movement of pro-American forces. That is why, we have seen that the states of the so-called moderate countries are trying, to besiege and conquer the nation’s forces of oppositions, as well as continuing to pursue their project of political and sectarian fragmentation.
Lebanon: The Government of improvisation
In Lebanon, we could have done without this difficult situation that was a direct result of improvised decisions of the government that has neglected the minimum requirements of national reconciliation and confessional balances, especially towards the sensible issue of the Resistance, at a time Lebanon is threatened by Israel and the Resistance leaders are facing the threat of assassination.
This has made several parties justly think that these decisions hinder the security of the country, giving the enemy a chance to settle its accounts in the aftermath of 2006 war. In this respect, we would like to remind all parties that the UN Security Council has not issued a ceasefire yet, and the enemy had made it clear that it will launch an aggression against Lebanon and its Resistance, whenever the opportunity arises.
We have always said that Lebanon should be concerned with protecting all its points of strength in the face of this enemy. Moreover, we have also stressed that the issue of resistance should not be dealt with from the point of view of internal Lebanese complications.
It should be dealt with from the point of view of national security and national dialogue, so as to develop a defence strategy that protects Lebanon and its people, from any aggression, whether in the present or in the future.
We would like to assert that the problem in Lebanon is a political problem and not a sectarian one. I ask all parties, especially the religious Islamic and Christians leaders, to be aware of falling into the trap of the sectarian rhetoric that incites strife. They should be aware of the projects the United States that aim at destroying Islam and Arabism, and depriving them of all their strong points, regardless of their sects.
The officials must fear Allah and seek to conduct the dialogue that preserves the country's balance, future and strength… You ought to fear Allah in protecting civil peace, Islamic and national unity, and the Resistance.
