The Lebanese judiciary, reception of the families of the four officers

Fadlullah: The Collapse of the Judiciary Represents the Collapse of the Last Base that Preserves the Country's Balance and Stability

His Eminence, the Religious Authority Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah, received the delegation of the families of the four officers, headed by Samar El-Hajj. They went through the circumstances that the officers are facing, and their file, in addition to the attempts their families are making to release them from custody in light of the last report of the international investigator, "Belmar".

His Eminence, Sayyed Fadlullah, emphasized the fact that the judiciary is responsible for protecting the country when the complicated lines in politics place the country at the heart of political, personal, and sectarian problems, and others, for the judiciary is the one qualified to treat matters in their natural and legal aspects away from complications resulting from several political files.

His Eminence considered that the problem of the four officers may have been based on the position that each of them held and the mystery behind the assassination of the late Prime Minister Rafic Al-Hariri and the role that the media played concerning the investigation, besides the political dimension that the crime took, which exceeded the judiciary's given facts in many deliberations and the fact that the local elements of the issue were mixed with the regional and international dimensions in a complicated manner that made those officers pay the price by their arrest that went too long without either trial or declaration of their innocence.

His Eminence emphasized that it is shameful that the families of the four officers hope to be served justly via the International Tribunal, whereas the Lebanese judiciary does not make the right decision in either serving them justly and proving their innocence or showing their responsibility in the crime.

His Eminence hoped that the Lebanese judiciary would not get involved, by some of its symbols, in the political game rendering its decisions dependent on the political situations, for the biggest ordeal resides in the corruption infiltrating in the judicial body. Therefore, the judicial authority would collapse after the political authority had collapsed, so the people would become empty-handed concerning what they depend on to solve their problems and go past their crises.

His Eminence wished that the judiciary is honest concerning this case, so it either presents the evidences that convict the officers or declares their innocence, for the judicial authorities represent the base that preserves the country's balance and stability and secures for the Lebanese the foundations of justice and accountability of criminals.

His eminence pointed out to the necessity of enforcing the law of "where did you get all this from?" against corruption and corrupters, because we fear that this law would extend forward to the third millennium and remains of no avail and becomes only words iterated by the politicians who get even richer at the expense of the deprivated and downtrodden groups who get even poorer, so they place in front of them political money as a temporary solution for their big problems in anticipation of the parliamentary elections.
