Fadlullah received the Dutch Ambassador to Lebanon

Sayyed Fadlullah calls for dialogue with the Dutch politicians to explain to them the understanding of Islam and the Quran regarding Violence

The Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah received the Dutch Ambassador to Lebanon and discussed with him the Dutch-Islamic relations in detail, as well as the negative impact caused by the Dutch MP Wilders's film "Fitna" on these relations.

The Dutch Ambassador stressed that his government refuses to put Islam and violence on equal footing. He also said that the film aims only to insult Islam, clarifying that the government, parliament and people of Holland in no way agree with the views expressed in the film, emphasizing that we, as Christians and Muslims and people of different religions and races, can live together through meeting in the points on which we agree and ignoring the differences between us.

On his part, Sayyed Fadlullah stressed that the Dutch government would not be held responsible for the film, highlighting the need for western politicians and lawmakers to respect Islamic sanctities and not only try to lessen the intensity of every problem just to prevent any possible negative developments. He added that the West uses two criteria in which it rejects any criticism against the Jews for being anti-Semitic, while on the contrary, it justifies any insult against Islam under the pretext of the "freedom of expression".

His Eminence pointed out that the Western Administration must understand well that, regardless of any consideration, the Islamic conscience does not accept any offense against the Prophet (p.) or against the Holy Quran, emphasizing that the presence of Prophets (p.), especially Prophet Muhammad (p.) in the Islamic conscience is different from their presence in any other religion. He also stressed that there should be laws that prevent the repetition of such offenses, emphasizing the necessity of respecting the spiritual aspects in the Islamic world. He also expressed his worries that some parties would exploit such offenses in order to take violent actions that we have voiced our rejection to them.

The Sayyed pointed out that the Holy Quran is clear in calling upon Muslims not to use violence except for self-defense, and not for confronting people in the world. Besides, Islam does not permit violence just because we differ with others. Therefore, we have always sought to make friendly relationships with the people of the world, although some Muslims use violence due to their misunderstanding of Islam. Besides, there are in the West some parties that practice violence against the civilians and innocent people, in addition to the fact that the occupation represents an ongoing violence state.

His Eminence stressed that he is ready to enter into dialogue with the Dutch politicians, especially with Geert Wilders, to explain to them the understanding of Islam and the Quran regarding violence. Hence, we consider that Geert Wilders' judgments about Islam and the Holy Quran have roots in his ignorance of the Islamic and Quranic concepts and teachings, and may originate from the inaccurate translations of the Quran he had read.

H.E also noted that Islam welcomes researchers who want to analyze Islamic teachings based on scientific principles and methods, but it rejects insults and offenses or any view that is not based on science and objectivity.
